Reduced
need for investments
“The alternative was to replace the existing feed barge with a newer one. This would have resulted in an investment need of approx. € 1,5 mill to € 2,0 mill.
By being able to extend the life span of the existing feed barge by 2-3 years, SCG contributes to a reduction in financial cost of approx. € 0,25 mill, thereby reducing the pressure on our budget of investments. In addition to this, a higher grade of efficiency, comfort and security for the employees is achieved as well as the fact of using feed barges without overnight accommodations in the future.”

Bad weather
“In 2008/2009 we had at one of our sites approx. 60 days of not being able to access the barge, thereby not being able to feed the fish. This is now expected reduced to almost nil. In January we had 15 days of a weather conditions stopping us from accessing the feed barge, but we were able to commence feeding and controlling the fish thanks to SCG.
This is also an important factor of safety for the employees and can also result in better use and control of feed.”

Without
wire, not without control
“To be able to run operations from land we are dependent on a communication infrastructure covering all sites in the designated area. Often they are hard to access, situated in deep fjords surrounded by high mountains, something that requires an extensive network for coverage. We have ourselves tried to establish communication between two sites with free line of sight, but even that has been very difficult to establish with a satisfactory grade of stability and quality. To set up a structure of masts on mountaintops etc. is not an option for us. The establishment and service of a communication network is not our line of business, but must be left to the experts by means of telecommunications.”

If we are to operate all sites from the same place or Operations Centre we are dependent on this happening by means of one remote operating system that serves it all. The information displayed in the Control Panel must be correct no matter who supplies the sensory or cameras to the sites. SCG ensures us also the flexibility we need to choose whoever we want the next time we purchase cameras or sensory equipment for the different sites.”
